Endeavor Engineering developed a Seeq connector for ABB Knowledge Manager (ABBKM) that organizes ABBKM signals under an asset tree structure. This connector is built with the Seeq Connector SDK and is enabled through the ABBKM web API, which is required for it to work.

The Seeq Connector SDK provides the software environment to enable a datasource interaction with Seeq through a Seeq Agent. It is part of Seeq’s DevOps process, therefore benefits from ongoing test and validation to work with all Seeq releases. It also includes growing capability to enable Seeq partners like Endeavor Engineering to validate custom solutions like the ABBKM with Seeq through test framework and other tools.

How it works

In alignment with the standard Seeq SDK pull type connector, the ABBKM connector implements three main functions against the ABBKM Web API. This includes the following.

  1. Index - Get a comprehensive list of all ABBKM tags and associated metadata, then represent that in Seeq under an asset tree.

  2. GetSamples - Once a user selects a specific tag/signal the connector requests the associated samples during the time period of interest.

  3. Monitor - Periodically make a simple request to the ABBKM datasource to make sure it is reachable.

Index

With the ABBKM Web API, the ABBKM connector requests a filtered list of ABBKM tags and then organizes them under an asset structure with multiple options. This is enabled by the tag metadata returned from the query.

The indexing can be configured or organize tags in an asset tree in the following ways.

Note: kmpath is an ABB Knowledge Manager path structure returned from the Web API.

  1. tagid (default) - Asset path is plant>>periodType>>kmpath>>tag/signal

    1. The Seeq signal dataID is from tag name path.

  2. kmlogs - Asset path is plant>>periodType>>kmpath>>tag/signal

    1. The Seeq signal dataID is from tag name.

  3. flat - Asset path is plant>>tag/signal>>tag/signal/period

    1. The Seeq signal dataID is from tag name.

Note: There are many ways to organize the asset tree and new modes are developed on demand.

GetSamples

Once the signals in Seeq are indexed, then getting samples is relatively straightforward. The connector makes calls to the ABBKM Web API to retrieve the samples for select signals and time frames.

Monitor

The ABBKM connector periodically queries the ABBKM Web API for availability. It if receives an acceptable response then the connection state remains CONNECTED.

Test/Validation

This connector is tested and validated with automated monthly Endeavor Engineering Seeq SaaS/CD updates.

VirtualForge Integration

This connector can optionally be VirtualForge enabled. VirtualForge enables the following features.

  • Using your dashboard, you can view connector status along with any other VirtualForge products you have.

  • Endeavor Engineering can better monitor, support, and respond to connector operational states.

  • Enable automated connector updates (not currently available through Seeq)

  • Default state is not enabled.

Support

This connector is supported by Endeavor Engineering system through a our ticketing system and VirtualForge monitoring.
